New Roomie

Imagine my complete surprise when I realized my studio has a new roomie...not a mouse this time, (thank heavens) but the chubbiest earthworm I have ever seen. I guess she has been living in my little terrarium since the spring and has finally grown large enough to see. I wouldn't have noticed her, except I have been noodling on what to do with the moss that has overgrown the little red mushroom that was lovingly planted in the middle of the jar. I keep looking at the glass jar and wondering what the proper procedure is for grooming a terrarium? I am sure Martha would know! I am delighted to have my new roomie's company and have decided to name her Lou-La-Belle. I think she will be a welcome source of inspiration.

Mid States Exhibit

Well, here is one of the two entries in my attempt to be selected in the "Mid States" Exhibit, held at the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science. This piece is "Incubator", she is my first piece to have a lighting element (that actually works). She is a variation of an art box I did early this year entitled "Incubator of Dreams". Often I think my art boxes are a bit off putting to the viewer. My thought in creating "Incubator" was to make the piece an interpretation of the same subject in a more understandable presentation (a piece that looks more like a painting than a three dimensional piece) in the hope that it might be more viewer friendly.
She is an acrylic painting on board, with plenty of gold leafing for her halo. The box inset or the incubator itself, is an assortment of found objects. The photo used as the background is the working photo of the original art box "Incubator of Dreams". I have used, wire sod, wire grate, eggs, ribbon, mirror, rubber, found metal letters and let me not forget the lighting element. Many thanks to Katie Waters and Rob Millard Mendez who helped guide me in this first attempt.

Floral Lovelies

Here is one of my newest creations, I call it the "Rocker Girl" cuff. Stones and Pearls and Leather and Crystals-oh my. Just for additional information, it doubles as a lovely weapon! LOL!! Getting ready for Funk in The City next weekend and don't want to do any of the mundane things that I am supposed to be doing...ie, housekeeping duties. I wish there was a magic cleaning fairy who would tidy up my house everyday and clean off my work desk every afternoon-wouldn't that be just the best! Well a person can dream!
I finally succumbed to the crud and visited with my physician yesterday. I won't exactly rant, but I find it appalling that my visit the same time last year cost me $75 and this year the same kind of visit cost $111. I mean please, I did get the discount for being "self insured" and I do understand that people need to be paid for their services. Four minutes of service for $111.00, maybe I too should raise my prices.....although on the other hand, I would prefer to continue selling my art, so maybe not.
The good news is that the crud will bow down to the pharmaceuticals within the next four days, I am very thankful for that!

Exploding Head Tuesday

Wow, can you say 92 degrees on September 14th. The weekend was so fabulous that I really did get suckered into thinking fall was really in the air to stay. I wish the nastiness that I picked up from the office would leave my system for good-lingering head cold or just a respiratory infection that has taken up residence? Working on food donations for the "Holly Day" Bazaar. I have a really high bar to reach as the food last year for the artists and vendors is very fondly remembered-no pressure! Breakfast, lunch and snacks-oh my...

On a more traditional note, cleaning up and re-arranging furniture in my studio, yet again. I am in need of more blank wall space, so the re-purposed china cabinet is going back to its original job of storing dishes and the forlorn Hoosier bottom is going to become new flat surface to work on (minus the top). I am sure that is an arrangement that will last a month or two. LOL!
